Former Ryder Cup golfer Paul McGinley made a tour of the course and spoke with all the players during a junior tournament at the new Laranjal golf course at the Quinta do Lago Golf Club on August 5.
The event was part of an initiative started three years ago by Tracey Derbyshire and Margaret Blain, two mothers who are members of the Quinta do Lago Golf Club.
Initially there were competitions held every Friday for junior members between the ages of 12 and 21 but this then expanded to include any juniors who were staying in the Algarve to be able to take part.

Now more than 30 members take part in competitions every week, usually held on the North and South courses at Quinta do Lago.
However, the special guest appearance of Paul McGinley on August 5 saw the group being invited to the Laranjal course.
On the day, 40 players took part in the competition, with the overall winner being Niall O’Connor with 44 points, followed by Charlie Field with 43 points.
Mark Foot, the general manager of the Quinta do Lago Golf Club, said: “The Club wishes to extend many thanks to the Sociedade de Golfe de Quinta do Lago for the very kind welcome that they extended to all the juniors including waiving the green fee, and donating many of the prizes.”
