GOLFING INNOVATION

The 1st European Universities Golf Championships were contested by 14 faculties representing 10 different countries on the Pestana Pinta and Alto courses last week with Ireland’s University of Maynooth emerging as the big winners.

Their overall net scores team success was added to by the individual men’s title secured by James Conaghan as further glory went the Emerald Isle’s way in the shape of Northern Ireland’s University of Ulster with the collective gross score award. Only the Ladies Singles Cup stayed on the Iberian Peninsula as the University of Malaga’s Tatiana Beltran held off her Slovenian and Portuguese pursuers.
