A fully subscribed field of golfers took to the greens and fairways of the Pestana Vale da Pinta course earlier this month to raise money for the Riding for the Disabled Barlavento charity.
The golfers, mainly from the Boavista golf club, Parque da Floresta golf club and from Golf for Greys, raised more than €4,000 for the charity during the day, which will provide around 50% of the annual costs of the charity that provides therapeutic exercise and enjoyment to handicapped pupils between the ages of four and 59, throughout the Algarve.
The money raised will be used to pay for the costs of hiring horses and equipment as the helpers and representatives of the charity provide their services on a voluntary basis at the arena based at the QDA Horse Riding Centre near Bensafrim.

The main prize winners on the day were Barbara Bird and Linda Purser with 43 points and the pair were presented with digital cameras and champagne by Roger Blay, the captain of the Boavista golf club.
Stuart Buckley and Nick Daly came in second place with 42 points while Ralph Griffin and Richard Stead finished in third with 41 points.
The longest drive on the 18th hole was won by Dave Longmore and Thelma Pickard while Steve Saunders and Gloria Pooley were nearest to the pin on the fifth hole.
Organisers of the event would like to thank Pestana for the use of the course and golf director Rui Gago, who was involved in the planning of the event and the running of it on the day.
