Golfers are not as healthy as they believe

According to an informal survey published in Golf Digest, two-thirds of golfers are overweight, although only 54 per cent believe they are. While top tour players are generally in good health, the majority of non professional golfers are not.

More than 500, mostly male golfers, filled out the survey and the results indicated that:

• Three out of 10 amateur golfers, including 43 per cent of women, are not able to finish a round of golf due to pain, injury or illness.

• 19 per cent never exercise in a gym.

• More than half take a prescription drug.

• More than 75 per cent drink at least one alcoholic beverage a day.

The survey was issued as part of an effort to increase golfers’ awareness of health care and disease prevention.
