Golf tournament to raise funds for needy children

A golf tournament and dinner in aid of charity is taking place at Penina’s Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course on August 15.

The first 18-hole golf course to be built in the Algarve, the Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course is known for its breathtaking views and challenging nature, which provides a test for golfers of all skill levels.

The competition is open to a maximum of 120 entrants and the first tee starts at 8am. The maximum handicap for the tournament is 28 for men and 36 for women. There are prizes for the top three net scores, the best gross score, as well as longest drive and nearest to the pin competitions.

From 7pm, there will be a gala buffet dinner, followed by a charity auction, prize giving for the day’s golf tournament and live music.

The two charities benefitting from the day are Refúgio Aboim Ascensão (Faro) and CRACEP (Portimão).

Refúgio Aboim Ascensão works to change the lives of abused, abandoned and neglected children, while CRACEP provides support, rehabilitation and life coaching to young people with disabilities and learning difficulties.

Tickets cost €60 for the golf and dinner, and €30 for just the dinner.

Registration for the tournament closes on August 12.
