news: Golf  tournament raises money for boys’ home

A CHARITY golf tournament organised by the Instituto D. Francisco Gomes, commonly known as Casa dos Rapazes de Faro, a home for underprivileged boys in Faro, was held recently, raising 5,000 euros towards improvements at the institution, which currently cares for 60 children.

For the second year running, the tournament was sponsored by Herdade dos Salgados and the number of participants exceeded all expectations. The format for the competition was a Texas Scramble, with participants competing in pairs. Amateurs and professionals also enjoyed taking part in a putting competition.

As well as the monies raised from the entry fees and donations, artist Bo De La Haye donated two of his paintings, which were auctioned during the prize giving.

The net winners were Nick Butterfly and Mike Jenkins with a score of 63, while the gross winners were Bob Togni-Coe and Sean Hawker, scoring 65. The putting competition was won by J. Elliott.
