The Second Portuguese Red Cross Golf Open, organised by the Pestana Group and the Portuguese Red Cross Delegation of Faro, will take place on July 15, at Vale da Pinta Golf in Carvoeiro. Following the tournament, a gala dinner will be held at the Pinta Clubhouse, where there will be music and a prizegiving ceremony.
The competition is open to all players, who should pick up an enrolment form from Gramacho/Carvoeiro Golf Club or from the Portuguese Red Cross Delegation in Faro. The cost for entering the competition is 70 euros, which includes dinner and a souvenir of the event. Between 150 and 200 players are estimated to take part in the event, including professional footballers Carlos Xavier, Humberto Coelho and Frederico Rosa.
All proceeds from the event will go towards setting up a Red Cross centre in Faro to help disadvantaged people. The EU and the Portuguese government have set aside funding for the centre, but around 100,000 euros is still needed to begin construction on the building.
