THE RECENT announcement, from the André Jordan Group, that Lusotur Golfes figures have risen by 100 per cent in the last four months, confirms that the Algarve is still regarded as one of the most popular holiday destination for international golfers.
Lusotur Golfes has five courses across the Algarve and, in the last quarter, the total number of rounds played on them was an astonishing 82,701, almost 10,000 more than at the same time last year.
British golfers in the Algarve made up 65 per cent of the total rounds played on the courses, followed by the Germans, Irish, Finnish and Swiss. Portuguese golfers only represent five-and-a-half per cent of the total rounds, but figures show that this number is slowly increasing. The company’s success is partly due to the legendary golfer, Arnold Palmer, lending his name to the club, as well as quality international advertising.
