Golf day raises 3,400 euros for Lagos Orphanage

EVERY YEAR, the Boavista Golf Club and Palmares Golf Club join for a friendly competition to win The Palvista Trophy, but, more importantly, to raise money for the Lagos orphans.

It was the turn of Boavista to host the competition and 20 players from each club played in pairs, one member from each club in each pair. There were modest prizes for the best scores, but the real purpose was to raise as much money as possible for the orphanage.

A draw for a Pousada Passport was held and the winner was Keith Philpott from Palmares. Steve Dodds, the Captain of Boavista, who was an auctioneer before retiring to Portugal, auctioned a number of gifts donated by local restaurants and members of Boavista and Palmares. In addition, it is the custom for the host club to donate all the green fees to the day.

All in all, a good time was had and the result was a magnificent 3,400 euros for the Lagos orphans.
