The fourth Portugal Open Championship takes place at the Bela Romão Croquet Club near Fuseta this week with the finals being contested on Sunday.

Players from Finland, Norway, France, Sweden, Ireland, Scotland, Spain, England, Wales and Portugal will compete for the coveted trophies whilst invited guests will enjoy a sumptuous banquet on the Saturday evening.

The ‘BBC Last Night of the Proms’ will provide the focal point for this night of celebration with top international chef Sarah Byrne creating a special Lebanese Banquet.

Bela Romão now boasts three croquet lawns which will no doubt see some spectacular action if last year’s championship is to be surpassed. Lita Gale, president of the Portugal Federation, said: “We are delighted that top-class croquet players from Europe and Scandinavia are joining us for this prestigious event. We are also very fortunate to have Lionel Tibble, Golf Croquet International Performance Director, overseeing the competition.”
