Golf and dine 4 Rod

Chef Jaime Perez will be preparing a food tasting menu at Vistas restaurant after a charity golf competition at the Monte Rei course on Saturday, June 27, to raise funds to pay for a life-saving kidney transplant for British resident Rod Smyth.

The golf competition is limited to 72 places, comprised of 18 teams of four, and is due to start at 1pm.

Prizes will be presented for first, second and third place as well as golfer nearest the pin. Lloyd & Whyte International has also offered to donate a new car for a hole-in-one on the fifth hole of the course.

The dinner, which is due to start at 6.30pm with cocktails and canapés, includes a variety of dishes.

Places are expected to go quickly, so those who are interested in taking part in this charity event are asked to book promptly.

Tickets cost 130 euros per person for the golf and dinner, although wine will be charged as an extra.

There are also limited places available for dinner only for partners and non-golfers at 70 euros per person. A total of 65 euros from each full ticket will be donated to Rod Smyth.

Meanwhile, Touchelle, Rod’s wife, has already raised more than 21,000 euros of the minimum 30,000 euro target.

“On July 5 I will be taking part in a charity cycle ride from London to Brighton” said Touchelle. “Things have been moving forward and I have recently been to England to have tests done because with medical advancements there is the possibility that I could be a donor for Rod.”

On September 5, Touchelle is also planning a ball, the location of which is yet to be announced, to launch Rod on his journey to gain a new kidney and a new lease of life.

Any funds not used directly for the operation and Rod’s living expenses in the UK will be split between charities in the UK and Portugal as both countries have contributed massively to Rod’s wellbeing.
