Tears were flowing freely as Hugo Chapouto became the first Portuguese roller skating double gold medallist at the sport’s Artistic World Championships in Portimão.
“This is the best win of my career,” the outstanding solo dancer, who will now retire, said afterwards.
At only 25 years of age, Chapouto will now devote all of his time to architecture.
Artistic roller skating is quickly growing in popularity and will feature at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games for the first time.
Before then many of Portugal’s promising juniors will be among the serious title contenders at the next World Championships to be held in Brazilia.
