Gold Coast gets Silver

A hostel in Lagos has been recognised in the Hostelworld’s ‘2012 Hoscar Awards’.

Gold Coast hostel in Lagos was awarded a Silver Medal in the Best Seasonal Hostel category. The Gold Medal went to Ostello Gallo d’Oro in Florence, Italy.

According to Turismo do Algarve, the hostel concept of accommodation had originally been created for travellers on a low budget, with establishments found particularly in large city centres, such as Lisbon and Porto.

“But now it can also be found in the Algarve, with the Lagos hostel appearing among the world’s best for its character, security, location, staff and hygiene standards,” a spokesman for the tourism board said.

Hostelworld.com is the largest online bookings website for hostels in the world and offers accommodation in 18 countries. The site was launched in 1999 and is available in 23 languages.
