Lagoa football club has recovered from a bad start to the second division promotion play-off phase featuring all the top clubs in the country at that level.

The Algarveans’ latest 2-0 home success places them only two points behind pacesetters Carregado with a real chance of joining Portimão in the Liga Vitalis next season.

The latter secured an important 1-0 victory over Covilhã on Sunday which should have been enough to avoid the developing relegation dog-fight.

In other football news the Stadium of the Algarve is to be boosted to 40,000 seats in anticipation of a successful 2018 Iberian World Cup bid, while Faro cannot find a buyer for their old ground.
