Nearly 1.7 tonnes of illegally captured cockles have been seized by GNR police in two major busts in the Algarve.
The first operation took place in Faro on Saturday (January 18) and led to the confiscation of around 1.6 tonnes of cockles, while 900 kilos were seized in Olhão two days later.
The shell fishermen involved in the Faro case escaped, while the culprit in Olhão was identified and is facing fines of up to €153,740.
