A police boat from GNR’s coastal control unit broke down while chasing two suspicious boats believed to be loaded with drugs near Armona Island (Olhão) on Tuesday afternoon.
One of the boat’s motors stopped working during the high-speed chase, causing structural damage to the vessel and allowing water to begin leaking in.
The suspects were able to flee, while the boat had to be towed back to safety.
