A man from Mondim de Basto, in the north of Portugal, opened fire on four GNR officers who were responding to a reported robbery at his father’s wood factory.
The suspect, who is believed to have made the phone call to alert the authorities of the alleged robbery, shot against the officers as they arrived at the scene last Friday.
Two officers had to receive hospital treatment for minor injuries.
The man has been charged with attempted homicide and is being held in preventive prison until the trial.
