GNR officers from the Safe Residence Programme in Loulé and David Thomas from Safe Communities Algarve (SCA) joined forces to launch a campaign promoting crime prevention during the festive season.
The initiative took place at Apolónia Supermarket in Almancil on December 21, 22 and 24, and aimed to raise awareness among the community about the most common form of criminal activity at that time of the year.
The event covered areas such as home protection, the dangers of drink-driving, road safety and safe commerce.
This was the first time such an event was held and both organisations hailed it a success, with more than 250 people, mainly foreign residents, visiting the GNR/SCA stand and showing interest in the work being developed to improve the feeling of security in the Algarve.
Special GNR proximity policing programmes were also explained to members of the community.
