A GNR police officer, 28, was attacked with a glass bottle after being called to break up a party in Carvoeiro on Saturday night (March 28) at around 8.30pm.
Police were alerted by neighbours to a loud party that was taking place, despite strict State of Emergency containment measures.
The policeman was reportedly attacked when trying to enter the house where the party was taking place.
The officer had to be taken to hospital where he received four stitches to his head.
Two Brazilian men – a father and son aged 40 and 23 – were arrested but released by a court on Monday, much to the dismay of the association of GNR officers (APG).
“This was the Portuguese State that was attacked, and this case embarrasses every Portuguese citizen. More dissuading measures are needed so that this feeling of impunity doesn’t grow,” said António Barreira from APG.
Another two people were arrested in Lagoa in the early hours of March 30 for “resisting authority”.
