Twenty-two motorhomers and campers were fined last weekend for parking their vehicles and spending the night in “unauthorised areas” in the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Nature reserve.
According to GNR police, “any kind of overnight stay at the protected area is prohibited”.
The main problem, they say, is that motorhomers and campers create rubbish, which contributes to the “environmental degradation of the park”.
These kinds of routine inspections to detect “illegal motorhoming and camping” will become more common this summer, GNR police announced.
The authorities will also be conducting a number of “awareness campaigns”, advising motorhomers and campers on where they can and cannot spend the night.
