GNR denies ‘aggressions’ of three youths in Trofa

Various media outlets have been carrying photographs of bruises and injuries allegedly sustained by three youths at the hands of GNR police at the end of the Festa da Juventude in Trofa last weekend. The youngsters (backed by their parents) have presented a complaint against the agents concerned for “cruel and unjustified beating” – one having ended up in hospital “due to a blood clot in his head” , explain reports – while the GNR has refuted the claims, saying the force used against the trio was “strictly necessary”. A disciplinary inquiry has since been opened to establish the facts. According to one of the victims’ mothers, agents used discriminatory language, as well as administering unnecessary force. The young men (aged 17, 19 and 20) say they have been completely traumatised.
