A 20-year old man was arrested on August 22 by GNR police on suspicion of starting a fire in the Mata do Ludo area, close to Quinta do Lago.
The fire broke out at about 4pm in this protected area of the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa.
Firefighters from Loulé, Faro, Olhão, Albufeira and São Brás de Alportel, aided by 15 firefighting vehicles and a helicopter, fought the flames, which engulfed 2.5 hectares of scrub and pine forest.
The suspect will now be presented to court.
