GNR agent injured trying to stop fleeing driver in Lagoa

A GNR agent suffered minor injuries to his hand after trying to stop a driver who was fleeing from the scene of an accident he caused in Lagoa.

The accident took place when one car rear-ended another on the EN125 at around 5.45pm on Tuesday near the Lagoa winery building (Adega Cooperativa).

When GNR agents arrived at the scene, the driver who caused the accident started driving away, dragging the car which was in front of it for several metres.

A car chase ensued, but the man was able to escape, although the GNR tracked the vehicle down to a scrapyard in Silves.

Contacted by the Resident, Faro GNR police spokesperson Captain António Ramos confirmed that the man has yet to be arrested and that the case is being investigated.

The injured police officer was treated at Portimão Hospital and has already been released.
