Global home straight

The concluding fifth leg of the Portimao Global Ocean Race came under sail yesterday (Thursday) at 10.30am local time off Charleston, South Carolina, and is now on the way to its home port in the Algarve.

The remaining three double-handed sailors gained a further four days of rest and recuperation as the last solo competitor, Michel Kleinjans, was granted more time than originally scheduled to complete essential repairs to his Roaring Forties boat.
