Glad tidings of comfort and joy

Around 35 members of the Algarve Chaine des Rôtisseurs and their guests got together on December 20 at Vila Joya, Galé, to enjoy “good food, good wine and good company”.

Organisers say all three criteria were met and a fourth, good weather, was a bonus.

Lunch at the two-star Michelin restaurant began with a selection of their pre-starters, amuse-bouche, which prepare the guests for the meal and offer a glimpse into the chef’s approach to cooking.

Guests were able to sample a selection of red and white wines, supplied by Nigel Birch, his son Max and Sir Cliff Richard from the Adega do Cantor in Guia.

“Vida Nova Branco 2006 Verdelho was delicious. Onda Nova Rosé 2007 was also a pleasant surprise as were Onda Nova Syrah 2006 and Vida Nova Reserva 2005,” said the organisers, who also thanked the management at Vila Joya and Chef Dieter  Koschina and his team for the festive fare.

The next Chaine event is a lunch at Restaurante Camané, in Praia de Faro on January 9.
