Brazilian musical legend Gilberto Gil was in the Algarve last week. He attended a ceremony to mark the start of Portimão Municipal Museum’s renovation and expansion programme. Along with Câmara President, Manuel de Luz, the superstar laid the official first stone and celebrated the museum’s history.
The museum used to be a factory which produced La Rose tinned sardines – a favourite in Portimão and the whole of Portugal. To mark this humble beginning, a tin of sardines was placed with the stone. Later that night, Gil performed a special concert staged in the Parque das Feiras in Portimão.
