Gigantic solar plant

LISBON IS set to be the site of the biggest urban solar plant in the world, providing energy to 3,000 homes.

Work is due to start in 2008, with solar panels placed on the roofs of the warehouses in the Mercado Abastecedor da Região de Lisboa (MARL), a large food market in the north of the city near Loures.

The project involves an investment of 30 million euros and the MARL management team is now analysing proposals from three different consortiums.
