Young Olhão pastry chef Filipe Martins, who owns local pastry shop Kubidoce, presented local residents and visitors to the city’s Largo da Restauração with a giant Portuguese Easter cake last Sunday.
The initiative, initially scheduled for Saturday, had to be postponed due to the rain but the next day hundreds of people had the chance to taste the chef’s delicious masterpiece.
Within minutes, about 300 kilos of Easter cake, including four varieties combined into one single giant Folar measuring 80 metres in length, was cut up in slices and offered to the hundreds of people gathered for the occasion. For Filipe Martins his giant masterpiece paid off. “Once again, mission accomplished,” said the chef who won the 2010 award for the best chocolate creation in Óbidos.
