Giant Christmas in Loulé

Giant Christmas cake to be served in Loulé

Anyone will be able to try a slice for free

Loulé will be bringing its Christmas festivities to an end on Friday (January 6) by serving a giant bolo-rei Christmas cake to anyone who wants to try it for free.

The 150-metre-long cake will be unveiled at Praça da República at 5pm. It was baked by local pastry shop Loulé Doce, which used 110 kilos of flour, 150 kilos of crystalises fruit, 50 kilos of dried fruits, 22 kilos of eggs, 22 kilos of sugar, 14 kilos of margarine, 2 kilos of flavouring, 1.6 kilos of salt and 1.6 kilos of yeasts to bring the massive cake to life.

Providing musical entertainment will be Charola das Barreiras Brancas, which will be honouring the tradition of ‘charolas’ which sees groups of people taking to the street to sing traditional Portuguese carols in January.
