Amigos of São Brás Museum continue to attract new members, with more than 30 groups meeting regularly and the programme of activities constantly expanding.

Performance groups are particularly successful with numerous productions staged across the Algarve by members of the Aperitivo Theatre Group and the Amigos Choir. The Jazz Club, painting, photography, needlework and textiles are also popular, to such an extent that a second sewing group has been set up with a few remaining spaces still available.

Other established activities that are not yet fully subscribed include ballroom dancing and Argentinean tango, exercise classes in Yoga, Pilates and Thai Chi, as well as Portuguese language lessons at three ability levels.

Portuguese experts teaching model boat making in Marquette and ‘bilros’ lace making also have spaces to take new students. By popular demand, Bridge is about to be reintroduced.

A committee of volunteers gives serious consideration to any new suggestions or ideas. Members run activities within their groups and Vânia Mendonça heads and coordinates the committee assisting in the organisation of events, day-to-day logistics and publicity.

Amigos pay an annual subscription of €15 entitling them to various benefits.
