EVEN THOUGH the thought of Christmas may not yet have entered your head, let The Resident be the first to jog your memory – and how better than with a beautiful 2007 calendar?
Local artist Hazel (Sally) Dawson has been painting in the Algarve for a number of years and now, something which she humbly calls her hobby, has grown into a stunning range of calendars, which defiantly rival those you will soon see gracing the shelves over the festive period.
This time, Sally hasa chosen herbal remedies as her inspiration. Each month of the calendar has a print of a herb, which was first painted on porcelain by Sally, at the top, with a description of the remedy at the bottom. Did you know that Rosemary can be used in a tonic to combat temporary fatigue and overwork, or that Basil can be used to remedy depression and digestive problems? With Sally’s calendar you can enjoy the beauty of the herb and the science behind it.
And it’s not only calendars – there are address books, birthday books, aide memoir books and greeting cards also available – the perfect Christmas gift, stocking filler or for your own home. The range of Sally’s stationery is available from The Resident office in Lagoa, the coffee shop at Porches Pottery, the Health and Beauty Centre at Rocha Brava, Barnards Restaurant in Ferragudo, the Jokers Bar in Carvoeiro and the ABC Bookshop in Carvoeiro.
Best of all, any profits made from the sale of the stationery will go to children’s charity Associação Solidariedade com as Crianças Carenciadas do Algarve (ACCA). Calendars and the aide memoir books cost 10 euros, the address book and pack of 12 cards cost 12 euros and the birthday book costs 20 euros.
Sally is also available for individually commissioned paintings on canvas. For more information call 917 408 508.
