German triumph for Algarve racing team

“It was the hardest race of the season, I was always under pressure”, said Parkalgar Honda ace Eugene Laverty after taking the latest round of the World Supersport Championship from pole position in brilliant style.

The Northern Irishman held off sensational English rookie Gino Rea all the way to the line at Germany’s Nuerburgring to leave fiercest rival and still overall championship leader Kenan Sofuoglu trailing in third.

Laverty’s seventh victory of the season once again throws the title race wide open with only two rounds remaining – a mere eight points separate the Algarve team speedster from Ten Kate Honda’s Sofuoglu making for an exciting climax to the 2010 season with Laverty the master of his own destiny.

Parkalgar Honda team mate Miguel Praia had a less fortunate weekend starting the race in last place following some scrimmaging- some good progress over the early laps was then halted by a crash before the Albufeira resident finished in 14th place. The drama will continue at Imola on September 26 with what hopefully be the title decider scheduled for Magny-Cours in France on October 3.

A triumph for Laverty and the Algarve raises the thrilling prospect of the Parkalgar Honda team stepping up into the top World Superbike class sooner rather than later, a move which would give a tremendous boost to the standing of the still fledgling race track complex in the South of Portugal.
