German tourist still missing

LAGOS MARITIME police have suspended the search operations for the missing German tourist who was swept out to sea while visiting the cliffs near the Beliche Fortress in Sagres on February 23 (see The Resident, February 29).

The search operations were suspended on Thursday, February 28. According to a spokesman from the maritime authority, the patrol boats will remain on alert.

Olaf Vopel, 41, the missing German tourist, was accompanied by another German tourist, Romana Schroeder, 30, who died after she was swept out to sea at the same time. Her body was recovered shortly after by the Navy’s rescue teams.
