Following a recent flurry of unsubstantiated claims, UK media reports that German prosecutors are, in reality, pretty much up a gum-tree: “Detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine McCann fear that their case against prime suspect Christian Brueckner is ‘close to collapsing’, says the Mail today. A source close to the investigation told The Sun that the German police have until the New Year to find a new lead “before their investigation falls through (…) Publicly they are saying they remain convinced he is linked to Maddie’s disappearance… but, privately, the case is close to collapsing.” As stories go, it is another one that makes little sense, as investigations into the one and only suspect in this case can conceivably run until November 2029.
