A German couple is in a serious condition in hospital after a series of gas blasts in the Alfama district that has left the building where they happened in danger of collapse.
According to reports, the top storey of the building was let out to tourists. The German couple was among these. The woman is in S.José burns unit, while the man has been transferred to Coimbra.
Also hurt were two French people and one Portuguese, passing by in the street, reports Correio da Manhã, while Diário de Notícias has interviewed a Brazilian tenant in the building in Rua dos Remédios who claims “a recurrent smell of gas” had been prevalent for months before the explosions on Sunday evening.
