A German couple, reported missing since last Wednesday, has been found dead at the bottom of a ravine in Funchal, Madeira. The pair had arrived on the island only the day before and were last seen by their hotel’s receptionist as they prepared to go on a well-known walk to the Bom Sucesso spring. As far as rescue workers can make out, the pair fell to their deaths – although how and why is still uncertain. The man, aged 68, was the first to be recovered, 30 metres into the ravine. The woman’s body had fallen even further down and was more difficult to recover.
