The office is located along the busy Rua Francisco Sá Carneiro in Lagoa.
Mystery surrounds the murder of a German businessman in Lagoa. The 65-year-old was married to the major shareholder of property investment company Solidgalaxy, operating out of one of the town’s main streets.
He is described by Correio da Manhã newspaper as having had “the real power” in the business, which he co-ran with a lesser shareholder – also German.
When the man was discovered dead in his office in Rua Francisco Sá Carneiro “no one suspected any crime”, writes CM, as the elderly German had a history of heart problems and had recently recovered from two strokes.
He had also been “nervous” on the day of his death “due to a meeting he was going to have with his partner to discuss the financial problems of the firm”, said the paper.
And this is where the mystery deepens. At some point during that conversation, PJ police believe the partner strangled him. CM writes that the suspect “feared the closure of Solidgalaxy”.
“After the crime, he abandoned the locale and telephoned the man’s wife to say he was concerned that his boss was not feeling very well.”
The wife later discovered her husband dead in his office – and everything, at the time, pointed to death through natural causes.
It was only when the widow requested an autopsy – which showed the man had died of asphyxiation – that suspicions narrowed onto his 54-year-old partner who, in the meantime, had slashed his wrists and driven his car into a river.
According to CM, the man had been interned in a psychiatric hospital in Portimão since the incident, only leaving it last Thursday – to walk straight into the hands of PJ police.
The man has been remanded on bail and ordered to report daily to police until the next court hearing. He has been prohibited from leaving the country or his place of residence.
The premises of Solidgalaxy are understood to be closed and have been so since the grisly goings on at the end of March.
An internet check on the business reveals only an address and fiscal number, but gives no details of shareholders’ names or indeed even a contact telephone number.
The activity of the business is described as “Investment and management services. Purchase and sale of properties and resale of properties. Property rentals. Property administration”.
A neighbour approached by CM is reported as saying: “I felt very uncomfortable when I knew it was murder. We had all thought he died of a heart attack.”
