George Michael to perform in Coimbra

GEORGE MICHAEL has announced that he will be opening his 2007 25 Stadium Tour in Portugal on May 12.

George Michael, most famous for his success in eighties pop band, Wham!, and subsequent solo career, will play at Estádio Cidade de Coimbra following lengthy negotiations with music promoter R&B.

Michael has recently completed a 50 date tour to celebrate 25 years in the music business. The tour was in also in support of the release of greatest hits collection 25 which includes singles Faith, Freedom and Careless Whisper.

The singer has now decided to complete a summer stadium tour throughout Europe, details of which were announced at a press conference on April 16.

Nuno Bramcaamp of R&B revealed that the company had been trying for many years to attract the artist to play in Portugal. “It was very difficult to complete negotiations for this concert,” he said. The company had tried to secure a date at Pavilhão Atlântico last year, but the two camps were unable to settle on a date.

It’s expected the concert will be a lavish affair and last longer than two hours, with several support acts performing before Michael takes the stage at 9.30pm. More than 150 foreign journalists are expected to be in attendance as well as several distinguished invited guests.

Tickets went on sale on April 17, cost between 35 and 65 euros and are available from www.pavilhaoatlantico.pt and Fnac stores.
