Around 300 food lovers from Portugal, Spain and Italy will meet in Portimão on Friday and Saturday (October 6-7) for the 19th Chapter and 13th Grand Chapter of the Algarve’s Gastronomic Brotherhood (Confraria dos Gastrónomos do Algarve).
Open to all, the meeting point is Portimão’s Clube Naval at 4pm on Friday, with a visit to the local museum planned for 4.15pm.
A welcome drink is scheduled for 7.30pm at the Ú Venâncio restaurant, followed by a dinner at 8pm, costing €25.
The bulk of the celebrations will take place the following day, with the highlights being a lunch at the Retiro do Peixe Assado restaurant at 1.30pm, costing €25, and a gala dinner at the Pestana Alvor Praia Hotel at 8pm, costing €45.
The dinner will be followed by the Ordem de Santa Maria de Ossónoba awards, which will hand out accolades in 13 categories including ‘Traditional Algarve Cuisine’, ‘Algarve Cuisine Chef’, ‘Algarve Wine’, ‘Algarve Restaurant’, ‘Food and Wine Matcher’ and ‘Career Award’.
Sunday will also feature a visit to Algoz, including a tour of the Quinta dos Avós tea house where delicious sweets and cakes are made, and a lunch at the Veneza restaurant/wine cellar at 1.15pm.
