‘Terras de Maio’, an event held annually in Azinhal, Castro Marim, to celebrate the best the Algarve has to offer in terms of gastronomy and traditions, will take place between May 9 and 11 at the Centro Multiusos do Azinhal.
The programme includes everything from wine tastings and cooking workshops to stand-up comedy and musical performances.
It kicks off Friday at 6.30pm with a parade to the sounds of the Banda Musical Castromarinense.
An hour later, a unique performance incorporating Fado and Flamenco promises to delight visitors, who can then participate (at 8.30pm) in a wine show held by the Confraria dos Enófilos do Algarve (Algarve Wine Brotherhood) as well as learn how to cook a seafood cataplana – a copper utensil shaped like a clam in which the ingredients are cooked in – under the guidance of Chef Abílio Catarina.
On Saturday, before the festivities begin later in the afternoon, there will be a seminar on the Algarve’s agricultural potential starting at 10.30am, followed by another series of culinary workshops and tastings of bread, olive oil and even clams.
The final day of the event will begin with a walk around Azinhal at 9am and will feature another round of workshops, tastings and entertainment, with fun activities for the children.
