A MEMORABLE ‘Dîner Amical’ was held recently to launch the new ‘Chaine Year’ of worldwide gastronomy association, Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs.

The venue was Restaurant Vincent in Almancil, where chef and owner Vincent Nas, Maître Rôtisseur of the Chaine since 1975, assisted by his wife and partner Willemina Zuydervelt, Maître de Table, prepared a mouth-watering, five-course meal for the occasion.

A unique recipe of hot cream of celery soup, blended with a tomato coulis with a mushroom strudel, was served and accompanied by a quail salad. Vincent’s gastronomic creations were enjoyed by 35 members and guests. Oenologist and winemaker Nuno Araújo presented his own fine wine Quinta da Covela, Colheita Seleccionada Minho 2003.

On the following day, Vice Chargé de Mission, António Henriques da Silva, administrator of Vilamoura Golfes, invited members of La Chaîne to participate in a golf tournament at the Victoria Golf Club, awarded Best European Golf Course by the Peugeot Guide 2005. The 15 players who took part in the tournament praised the excellent maintenance of the challenging course. After the prize giving, everyone indulged in the outstanding Portuguese cuisine of chef Bernardo Bourbon de Sousa Coutinho at his Victoria House Restaurant.

The next event of the Bailliage de l’Algarve of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs will take place in March. A total of 125,000 members are invited to participate in any of the events in the 123 countries where the Chaîne is represented. Membership is on a recommendation basis.
