Natural gas consumption in Portugal fell by 20% year-on-year at the end of the third quarter, reaching the lowest figure since 2014, according to data from REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais, released today. “At the end of the third quarter, natural gas consumption fell by 20% year-on-year, with a 38% drop in the electricity production segment and a 4.1% decrease in the conventional segment,” said the Portuguese electricity and natural gas transmission company, responsible for the overall management of the national electricity system and the national natural gas system, in a statement, emphasising that “this overall gas consumption is the lowest since 2014”.
