The weekend’s chaos in Lisbon A&E departments showed no sign of abating over Sunday night, with Garcia de Orta Hospital taking the decision to ‘divert non-critical patients to other hospitals’. Talking on his regular evening news slot on Sunday, television commentator Luís Marques Mendes dubbed this current ‘crisis’ in A&E (which has moved on from the earlier crisis of only obstetric A&E) is unacceptable in a government that has been in charge for seven years.
