MORE THAN 3,000 euros were raised for the tsunami victims in South East Asia in a Charity Swiss Teams Bridge event held recently at the Hotel Garbe in Armação de Pêra. The morning’s bridge was followed by lunch and yet more bridge for some of the Algarve’s most enthusiastic and dedicated lovers of the game. In all, 19 teams, totalling 76 players, participated in great spirit. Winners were Mike and Sandy Osborn, who successfully teamed up with Tony and Pat Webster. They were closely followed by Bill and Maureen Dainty, and Jeff and Tricia Perry. The tournament was directed by Brian Welch, who had flown over from the UK especially to organise the event. Swiss Teams Bridge is not usually played here in the Algarve and, for some, the scoring system caused some furrowed brows and scratching of heads! The organisers would like to thank the hotel for its support and all those who participated and enabled the event to take place. The money was also raised thanks to the generosity of those who donated raffle prizes to the raffle.
