Gambling addicts head for Portugal

A group of gambling addicts arrived in Portugal last week in a desperate bid to escape temptation back home.
For race fans, the five-day meeting at Cheltenham is always a must, writes the Irish Sunday Independent, but for compulsive gamblers trying to abstain, it can be agony, thus the need to ‘get away’. The 20 visiting addicts were all reported to be carrying golf bags but it is not certain which courses they went on to play.
The men were all described as members of a Dublin chapter of Gambling Anonymous (GA), which has since gone on record saying gambling addiction in Ireland has now reached “epidemic proportions”.
