‘Galpgate’ political embarrassment to be closed with mish-mash of fines

GALP “suspends purchase of Russian oil products”

Portuguese fuel giant GALP has suspended all purchases relating to Russian oil today.

President Paula Amorim has said: “This terrible act of aggression by Russia against Ukraine absolutely violates values that GALP defends”.

The news is being reported shortly after tabloid Correio da Manhã published a table showing European dependency on Russian oil.

According to the table Portugal does not import any Russian oil at all – although 10% of its gas comes from Russia.

GALP CEO Andy Brown has described the Russian invasion of Ukraine as “a strong attack on the free world. Our sympathy is with the Ukrainian people who are suffering this aggression. We are analysing how GALP can support collective humanitarian efforts”, he said.
