More than 100 children from 15 different countries took part in the Oceânico World Kids Golf Championship held at the Amendoeira Golf Resort near Silves between July 26 and 30.
Some of the best young golfers in the world between the ages of seven and 18 took part in the event, now in its second year.
“We are proud to have worked closely with the Portuguese Golf Federation in creating this event for the second consecutive year. Without doubt, investment in golf at a grass roots level remains a priority for us at Oceânico and we will continue to strive to give youngsters the opportunity to compete on a Championship course in Championship conditions,” said Chris Stilwell, CEO of Oceânico Golf.
“Huge congratulations must go to all the competitors but especially to Gonçalo Pinto, the overall winner who excelled around the Oceânico Faldo Course and Oceânico O´Connor Jnr. course, scoring a three round total of 225 and winning by a magnificent nine shots.”
Oceânico ambassador Lee Westwood said: “Events such as these are crucial for the development of the game and something dear to my heart. The more we can do to nurture the youngsters in the game, the better the future of golf will be.”
