SMAQ, Portugal’s national union of train drivers (SMAQ) begins a strike at CP (the country’s rail operator that has been striking on key days through Christmas and the New Year) that will last throughout the week. The purpose: to demand better working conditions and pay rises. In a statement published today SMAQ says the strike will have more impact between “00:00 on 4 January 2023 and 24:00 on 5 January 2023”, when workers “of the categories represented by SMAQ” are “on strike to do any and all work”.
