A group of animal lovers will be holding a charitable lunch on Sunday (June 14) to raise funds for the construction of a “sanctuary for retired and disabled street cats” in Carvoeiro.
The project, entitled ‘Mr No Ears Rescue and Retirement Sanctuary’, is being developed by Amigos dos Gatos do Algarve (AGA) and is named after Mr No Ears – aka the ‘Lion King of Albufeira’ and “one the mascots of the Algarve’s street cat community”.
The sanctuary will be built on the grounds of the Carvoeiro Cat Charity.
“We have the location, a volunteer group to support it, a builder and building supplies – now we just need to raise the funds to pay for it,” the animal protection group says.
The fundraising lunch will be held at ‘A Tasquinha’ restaurant in Carvoeiro at 12.30pm.
Everyone is invited to show up. Tickets cost €20 (€5 for children under 10), with proceeds going towards the sanctuary project.
There will be a vegetarian menu, a prize draw and musical entertainment by local musician Johnny White.
If you cannot turn up for the lunch, it is also possible to make a donation to the project online.
