An Algarve golf and hotel resort is backing a UNICEF project aimed to help children living on the streets of Egypt.
This support includes participation in the project’s Road to Awareness bike ride, a 360km effort from September 4 to 6.
An associate of the Le Meridien Penina Golf & Resort, Marco Ramos, along with a group of cyclists will be participating in the grueling bike ride that will take them on legendary climbs throughout the French Pyrenees.
Le Meridien Penina Golf & Resort is also inviting guests to leave a contribution of two euros on their hotel bill and is holding many events that will help raise more funds for the project.
Activities that have been planned include a football match, associate baking fair, a raffle prize draw, a night putting competition and an associate bike tour.
Nearly 250,000 euros was raised at last year’s Road to Awareness bike ride, where cyclists rode 450km through Northern France.
The money was raised in aid of a child to child radio project in Mozambique.
UNICEF’s main objective for the project is to provide social, medical and psychosocial support to 2,000 children who live on the streets in the Greater Cairo region. UNICEF hopes to protect the children from violence, abuse and at risk behaviours that may occur throughout their childhood.
